Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI) has continued with the organization of roundtables aimed at fostering participation and cooperation between non-majority communities and elected representatives at the local level. Within this roundtable, participants were the Bosniak community from the Municipality of Prizren as well as representatives of the legislative and executive at the municipal level.
Memuna Ajdini – a member of the Municipal Assembly of Prizren from the political party VAKAT, emphasized the need to inform the representatives of the municipal assembly about the problems addressed by the Bosniak community, expressing readiness to be part of any initiative that comes from the Bosniak community towards municipal executive.
Deputy Mayor of Prizren, Mr. Eshref Memaj, specifying the local mechanisms that address the representation of minority communities emphasized the readiness of the Municipality of Prizren to address any requests and concerns without any ethnic discrimination, seeing this meeting as very reasonable regarding the discussion of concerns and requests which will arise from the residents of the Bosniak community living in the city of Prizren and the surrounding area.
Within this meeting, Bosniak community residents addressed many issues and questions to representatives of the municipal executive and legislative where, one of the most disturbing requests remains the lack of investment in the school facility of the Drajçiç village, in Zhupa, wherein the absence of a school facility, children of this locality are obliged to attend classes in the villages nearby.
Bosniak community members are directly confronting the legislative and executive representatives at the municipal level, articulating the problems they face in everyday life and addressing concrete issues to decision-makers. Such meetings aim to increase citizen – decision-makers cooperation in the process of drafting public policies, as priorities of the residents of the Municipality of Prizren.
