The roundtable organized by KDI with the theme “Dialogue at the crossroads: what after the wall?” aimed to address the truths regarding the wall in the North, the consequences on the process of normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia and the ways on how this situation could be resolved.
Part of this debate was the Minister of Dialogue Mrs. Edita Tahiri, members of the Assembly of Kosovo: Mrs. Blerta Deliu-Kodra and Mr. Sadri Ferati, as well as diplomats and representatives of civil society.
At the opening of this roundtable, the Executive Director of KDI, Mr. Ismet Kryeziu, stressed that the lack of transparency has created uncertainty among citizens both Albanian and Serbian towards the dialogue process, in regard to the agreements reached and their content and about the effects that will bring into their lives. Kryeziu added among other things that KDI has taken the initiative to strengthen the role of Parliament in overseeing the government and increase citizen participation in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
While, Minister of Dialogue, Mrs. Edita Tahiri, shared with the audience the impact of the agreements reached in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in the dissolution of the Serbian illegal parallel structures in Kosovo, in extending the sovereignty of Kosovo throughout all country's territory and the consolidation of Kosovo's international subjectivity. She stressed that the wall will be removed and that it was not part of agreements or negotiations in Brussels, describing it as the next provocation by Serbia.
MP from PDK Mrs. Blerta Deliu-Kodra, stressed that the construction of the wall has been a concern of the entire political spectrum in Kosovo and has aggravated the political climate in the country.
She added that the dialogue has produced positive effects and that our only way as a country is dialogue. She said that it is not good that while we try to dialogue, we are faced there with such unexpected events. Mrs. Deliu-Kodra expressed its commitment to increase the demand for transparency in this process.
Whereas, the deputy of LDK, Mr. Sadri Ferati said that we do not know if the wall has been part of the discussions in Brussels, but said that the issue of the construction of the wall in the north of Mitrovica should be approached in the institutional level. He stressed that we must not allow for a wall to distract us from the regular agendas. Mr. Ferati expressed his concern about how the Albanian citizens live in the North and stressed the need for institutional support to improve their lives, leaving aside political rhetoric.
