AFTER TEN YEARS OF WORK DELAYS, THE VILLAGE OF ZASELLA STARTS TO BE SUPPLIED WITH DRINKING WATER

Meetings 12.12.2019

As a result of the mobilization of citizens, together with KDI’s assistance as well, the project for the supply of drinking water in the village of Zasella, with approximately 300 residents, has been finalized.

In 2008-2009, the project for the supply of drinking water had begun in the village of Zasella. At that time, the works for drinking water have been done with low intensity and then they have been suspended. Meanwhile, the residents of this village, for 10 years in a row, have submitted requests for the continuation and completion of the project in question.

In addition to the constant requests from the leadership of the village of Zasella, this issue was also discussed at two meetings held between citizens and municipal officials, organized by KDI; one of them in October 2018 and the other in August 2019. The Director of the Directorate of Public Services in the Municipality of South Mitrovica, at the meeting held in October 2018, promised to address with priority the issue of supply with drinking water and to finalize this project by 2019.

During this time, #KDI, by contacting the municipal officials in charge, has been constantly interested in the timing of the resumption of the project to supply drinking water in the village of Zasella. As a result of meetings and mobilization of citizens, in the spring of 2019, the institutions in charge took the first step and resumed the works left unfinished for more than 10 years. Meanwhile, in December, the project for the supply of drinking water has been finalized.

The meetings have been conducted in the framework of the project “Increase the Accountability of Local Government Institutions”, supported by the British Embassy in Prishtina.
