On the International Day of Democracy, Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI), in cooperation with the British Embassy in Prishtina and the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, held a debate with young people, which was broadcasted live on social networks, thus enabling citizens to ask questions. Panellists to this debate were MPs Blerta Deliu-Kodra and Dardan Sejdiu, and British Ambassador, Ruairi O’Connell.
During this session, topic of discussion was “Democracy and Prevention of Conflict”, for which Ambassador O’Connell emphasized to the youth three very important issues related to the democracy development. “First, citizens have the power, neither MPs nor the members of Government, therefore you should not expect from the members of government the things you can achieve yourself. Second, citizens are responsible to choose their representatives. Third, democracy is not easy; rather it is a choice between options. Do I seek a government that focuses on unemployment or demarcation or a government with socialist or conservative politics? Thus, it is important that citizens, especially young people, to feel empowered and responsible for the country’s democracy.” stated Ambassador O’Connell.
