Empowerment of Women in Politics and Decision-making

Kosovo has managed to build its legislation based on standards of equality and diversity as values ??to respect and promote human rights and freedoms. However, the low percentage of women’s participation in politics and decision-making does not coincide with the percentage of women in society. From a local level to a national level, women are underrepresented in most leading positions, whether they are elected posts, civil service, or the private sector.

Despite women’s rights to par- ticipate equally in democratic governance or their ability and willingness to prove themselves as successful leaders, practices in our society tend to give women less political voice and limited decision-making power.

The Women Empowerment Policy and Decision Making Program (FGPV) is designed to support all women and men who are ready to challenge and play a more important role in creating equal opportunities and empowering women to be leaders in political and decision-making life.

FGPV aspires that political parties, public and private institutions, to develop, effectively implement and advance the legislation and program policies that result in the elimination of discrimination and the reduction of barriers stemming from gender bias and stereotypes.

Legal and constitutional norms, international conventions that support civil-based civil rights, civic mobilization, advocacy, monitoring, capacity building, study visits and other structured actions in specific strategies to be undertaken by the FGPV are measures based on gender mainstreaming and democratic principles, to ensure progress in the fulfillment of equal rights for all.

FGPV foresees to undertake measures based on legal and constitutional norms, international conventions that support civil-based civil rights, and include civic mobilization, advocacy actions, monitoring, capacity building, study visits and other actions resulting from specific strategies. Such measures are based on the principles of the gender mainstreaming strategy to ensure progress in the achievement of equal rights for all without gender differences.
