Citizens of Kosovo on Government commitments in relation to the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue: not informed, not satisfied and not interested

30.09.2016

KDI has published today a report on “Transparency and dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia: Citizen’s perspective”, which elaborates topics such the level of citizen acquaintance regarding the agreements reached in Brussels, the level of satisfaction with the work of deputies in the supervision of the Government in the dialogue process, citizens' satisfaction in their involvement in this process, the willingness to contribute to the topics related to the dialogue and the key actors responsible for their information.

Despite the fact that some topics of dialogue have dominated the political scene in the country especially in the last year, the findings of this research to the public prove that Kosovo citizens on a large scale, are practically not informed about agreements reached in the process of dialogue Kosovo – Serbia (43%). About 76% of them are not satisfied with the Assembly and the way how this institution generally exercises its supervision over the Government in this process. Moreover, they are also dissatisfied with their level of involvement (75%) while expressing reluctance to get involved in the future in the process (57%). Based on this survey, citizens generally expect to learn more in the first place by the Government and then by the Assembly.

KDI estimates that the Government and the Assembly as carriers of this process should take a series of measures to increase transparency, increase institutional accountability to citizens, in order to build social consensus and political process of dialogue and to ensure citizen participation in this process by clearly articulating practical effects that this process brings to the lives of citizens.

This report is part of the project “Strengthening parliamentary oversight of the executive and increasing citizen participation in the dialogue Kosovo – Serbia”, funded by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland.
