Four members of the Assembly of Kosovo from Gjilan, today met with their compatriots from civil society and local government in a roundtable discussion that KDI organized in cooperation with the Parliament of the Republic of Kosovo. This rountable discussion was focused on the impact of the agreements reached in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia in the region of Gjilan “.
Specifically, in this roundtable were discussed the Brussels agreements which have a direct impact on the lives of residents of Anamorava region, such as the agreement on free movement, mutual recognition of diplomas, dialing code and other issues related to these agreements.
Part of the panel discussion were members of the Assembly: Mrs. Valdete Bajrami, Mr.Murat Hoxha, Mr. Ismajl Kurteshi, Mr. Zenun Pajaziti, Deputy Mayor of Gjilan z. Rexhep Kadriu, Nebojša Simin from NGO CKSD and Enver Këqiku from NGO Kosovo Centre for International Cooperation. In the debate participated many representatives from civil society, academia, media and political activists from the region of Gjilan.
What was emphasized during the discussion was the need for more transparency about the process, greater participation at the local level in these discussions, the provision of practical solutions to the citizens of both communities, and implementation of the agreements reached was noted as one of the greatest challenges for this region. Other issues that were discussed were the creation of the association of municipalities with Serb majority and the decentralization process.
MPs present at the meeting vowed to address the issues raised in this discussion at the Assembly.
This event was organized in the framework of the memorandum of cooperation signed between KDI and Parliament aimed at increasing the participation of citizens in the dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia as well as strengthening the oversight role of Parliament to the Government, with funding from the Embassy of Switzerland in Prishtina.
