KDI MARKS THE INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST CORRUPTION, GIVES PRICES FOR THE BEST PICTURE AND VIDEO #CORRUPTIONSFAULT

Kosovo Democratic Institute (KDI), today held the photography exhibition and ceremony to share prices for three first places in photography and video competition #corruptionsfault, on the occasion of marking 9 December, the international day against corruption.

Citizens who applied in the photography competition, were thought to depict the corruption consequences, whiles applicants for the video competition were supposed to depict their ideas on how to fight this phenomena.

All this activities were organized with the purpose of raising awareness for the damages of corruption in everyday life and promote active citizenship to support the fight against corruption. While opening the ceremony Anja Becky, first secretary of German embassy in Kosovo emphasized that corruption is not something abstract, but is something that harms our everyday lives and our development. “We are happy with the fact that citizens participated in such a large number in this competition, they brought their ideas and shown us the consequences that corruption causes’’ she added.

Meanwhile Shaip Havolli, director of Anti-Corruption Agency in Kosovo said that, the fight against corruption continues and our struggles against this occurrence are shown in the pictures around which are a fine portrayal of corruption level in Kosovo “Corruption level in our country is high despite the institutional commitments for rule of law in this case us as Anti-Corruption Agency. Society in this case is very active. From KDI, we received considerable information for cases related to conflict of interest, public procurement violations etc.’’ he added.

While Florent Spahija legal advisor in KDI, said that an exclusive part of KDI scope of work is providing pro bono legal advice for citizens who want to report corruption, whistleblowers and corruption witnesses. Employee’s rights, integrity in the justice system, political parties’ finances and public procurement are fields that KDI is continuously involved. “Today, while marking the international day against corruption, we call upon the government to dismiss ministers and deputy ministers with indictments, we also want to

Regain attention by requesting again the resignation of Chief State Prosecutor Mr. Lumezi. As well, we call upon prosecutor and police to join us in the fight against corruption, similarly the judiciary ought to give harsher punishments for the corrupted ones’’ added Spahija

As far as the competition is concerned, there were 115 photography’s and videos in total, which are evaluated by a professional jury.

First place: Agon Nimani

Second place: Florent Kastrati

Third place: Basri Oruqaj

These activities are organized by KDI on behalf of activities for the month against corruption and are supported by the German Ministry of foreign affairs and German Embassy in Kosovo.
