KDI CALLS FOR DISCIPLINARY MEASURES AGAINST MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT WHO USE NON-PARLIAMENTARY LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOR

Feedback 29.07.2020

The degradation of the language and behavior of the deputies of the Assembly of Kosovo during the plenary meetings or those of the parliamentary committees, has turned the Assembly into an arena of insults, labeling and physical clashes, shifting this institution from the responsibilities and functions it must fulfill.

KDI estimates that today’s meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, where the Kosovo chief diplomat, Meliza Haradinaj-Stublla, was reporting, was held in an angry spirit, especially between the deputies of the ruling coalition and those of the opposition, which led to termination of the meeting. Whereas, after the meeting, there were statements from the members of this committee from the ranks of Vetëvendosje! that they were physically attacked by deputies of the Democratic League of Kosovo.

KDI asks from the competent institutions to investigate the case and provide the necessary clarifications on the official version of this event. KDI also condemns any violent action or behavior of MPs, as a form of resolving political disagreements between them.

Considering the recent developments, where the Assembly of Kosovo has become an arena of clashes, insults, use of non-parliamentary language and behavior, KDI demands that the amendment of the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly begin as soon as possible, which should include tougher disciplinary sanctions against deputies who impede the smooth running of the work of the Assembly and its bodies, as well as those who use non-parliamentary language or behavior.
